Wireless Dog Fence - Pros & Cons

The wireless dog fence has four major advantages over the buried wire fence.

1. Installation is a whole lot easier and inexpensive when compared to an invisible fence that has a buried wire. I can't imagine anyone hiring someone to do the installation, although I'm sure that it's been done by people who don't realize what's involved. And here's what's involved: you unpack the unit, and plug it in. That's it! The unit is now operational.

2. It's portable. Because it's so easy to install, the wireless dog fence is essentially portable. All you need is a place to plug it in.

3. It can be installed any time of year, even if the ground is frozen and covered with snow.

4. You won't find your dog gone some day because there is a break in the wire and the fence isn't working because of the break. This is one of the major concerns with a buried wire fence: sooner or later you're faced with a break in the wire, and the larger the area you have fenced, the harder it is to find the break.

One word of caution here. Although the unit is operational as soon as you plug it in, that doesn't mean that your dog knows what's going on when you put on his collar and put him outside. Your dog still has to go through the training for the wireless dog fence. This training is the same for either a wireless fence or a wired fence. It involves putting out some flags marking the perimeter of the fence and teaching your dog the location of the perimeter.

The wireless dog fence has two major disadvantages when compared to the buried wire fence.

1. The fenced area has to be a circle. You can adjust the size of the circle, but you cannot adjust the shape of the fenced area. So if a circle isn't going to work for your location, than you will have to get a buried wire fence.

2. The size of the area is limited to about a 180 foot circle. This can be expanded somewhat by getting two units and having the areas overlap.

So there you have it. The wireless dog fence has two major limiting factors, but four advantages over the buried wire dog fence, and the area that you want fenced really becomes the determining factor.

Once you decide what type of invisible dog fence works best for you, here is a great place to get what you need.

All the best to you and your canine friends.
